The Pallay Punchu Mountain Apu Tacllo Tour is one of the most impressive experiences to discover the high-Andean landscapes of Cusco. This spectacular colorful mountain, located in the district of Layo, stands out for its geological formations that resemble a multicolored Andean poncho, offering unique views of the Peruvian Andes. During this one-day adventure you will travel through beautiful rural landscapes until reaching the community of Layo, where you will begin an uphill hike surrounded by lagoons, mountains, and vast Andean plains. From the natural viewpoints you’ll be able to admire the impressive Langui-Layo Lake and the colorful ridges of Pallay Punchu. With a maximum altitude of 4791 m / 15,719 ft and a hike of approximately 6 hours round trip, this tour is ideal for travelers looking for an authentic, less crowded experience with extraordinary landscapes in the mountains of southern Cusco.
Importante: It is recommended to do this tour after proper acclimatization in Cusco due to the mountain’s high altitude.
Itinerary
4:00 a.m. we’ll pick you up from your hotel in our tourist transport for a 3-hour drive to the community of Layo. After arriving in the district of Layo, our transport will take us 20 more minutes to the starting point of the hike. The hike is a 3-hour ascent; the time will depend a lot on each person’s physical condition. As we ascend, we’ll have an amazing view of “Lake Layo” and the surrounding mountains. Upon reaching the esplanade at the foot of the mountain, you’ll already have an impressive view of Pallay Punchu. At Pallay Punchu we’ll have time to take photos and enjoy the scenery, then descend and return along the same path. 7:00 p.m. Arrival in Cusco, dropping passengers off near the Plaza de Armas. Nota: Due to the high altitude, travelers who are not acclimatized may experience altitude sickness. We recommend resting in Cusco for at least 1–2 days before the tour.Cusco - Pallaypunchu
