Cusco Coffee and Chocolate Route Tour 2 Days
The Coffee Route is a 2-day, 1-night experience combining Andean landscapes and high jungle scenery in the Huayopata Valley, just a few hours from Cusco. The journey begins with hotel pickup and a scenic ascent through the Andes to a mountain pass at 4,316 m / 14,160 ft, where travelers can appreciate the shift from highland puna to high jungle.
On the first day, you’ll explore the Tea Route, with a walk through the valley to learn about the cultivation, harvest, and varieties of Peruvian tea, followed by a tasting of black, green, and white tea. In the evening, after a walk through the cloud forest in search of nocturnal birds and wildlife, you’ll enjoy a dinner made with local products before overnighting in the valley.
The second day is dedicated to coffee and chocolate: you’ll visit the plantations to learn the full coffee process — harvesting, pulping, drying, and traditional roasting — and prepare your own cup of high-altitude, freshly ground coffee. You’ll also take part in the artisanal process of making cacao paste and chocolate bars alongside valley families. A moderate-difficulty tour, ideal for connecting with rural life and the authentic flavors of Cusco’s high jungle.
Please note: During the tour you’ll experience a sharp temperature change, from the cold mountain pass to the warm valley climate. Layered clothing, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended.
