Experience one of the most important celebrations of the Andean world with the Inti Raymi Sun Festival Tour, a unique cultural event in Cusco that recreates the ancient Inca ceremony dedicated to the Sun God. Every June 24th, hundreds of actors, musicians, and dancers participate in this spectacular historical reenactment. The celebration takes place at three iconic locations: Qorikancha, the Cusco Main Square, and the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman, where the main ceremony is performed. Inti Raymi is one of Peru’s most remarkable cultural events and attracts visitors from all over the world. This full-day cultural experience lasts approximately 9 hours and reaches a maximum altitude of around 3700 m / 12,142 feet. Since walking distances are short and most activities take place at organized viewing areas, the tour is considered easy.
Important: Inti Raymi is celebrated only on June 24th. Tickets for the grandstands at Sacsayhuaman usually sell out in advance, so early booking is highly recommended.
08:00 Hrs. Hotel pickup in Cusco.
We will begin our experience by heading to the historic Temple of the Sun – Qorikancha, where the celebration starts. Here, we will witness the procession of the Sapa Inca (Inca King) and the Coya (his wife), carried on litters while nobles, priests, and soldiers accompany them to the next stage of the ceremony.
At the ancient Huacaypata (today’s Main Square), the Inca meets the Mayor of Cusco in a representation known as the “Encounter of Two Worlds,” symbolizing the meeting of cultures. This part lasts approximately one hour and features traditional music, dances, and ceremonial speeches.
We will then move to the impressive archaeological complex of Sacsayhuaman, where the central act of Inti Raymi takes place. Here, the Sapa Inca delivers a speech in Quechua, while ritual offerings, traditional dances, songs, and tributes to the Sun are performed.
The ceremony lasts approximately one and a half hours, and you will enjoy an included light box lunch while watching the spectacle.
17:00 Hrs. Drop-off for all passengers near Cusco Main Square.
Note: The main ceremony is conducted entirely in the Quechua language and may be subject to organizational changes by local authorities.
